A leaked upcoming legend for High Energy Heroes, the Chinese Apex Legends Mobile, looks like it is inspired by the Monkey King. It blends classic Chinese lore with the fast action Apex is known for.
Who is the Monkey King?
Sun Wukong is a legendary figure from Chinese mythology, made famous by the classic novel Journey to the West. He is known for his mischief, supernatural powers and unmatched fighting skills. Bringing him into the Chinese version of the game is a nod to local heritage and a smart way to win over players there.
What the leak shows
The design closely follows the traditional Monkey King: a staff, which is his signature weapon, and armour with mystical details. These are the abilities fans expect, based on the leak:
- Shape-shifting: like the Monkey King's transformations, a temporary change of form for a tactical edge.
- Cloud riding: a mobility skill for fast movement across the map, based on his famous cloud.
- Staff combat: a melee style with extra reach and special moves.
Why it matters
A legend like this could shake up how the game plays, and it shows the developers making content made for the Chinese audience. It is also not the first time a Monkey King legend was considered: early plans for the original Apex Legends Mobile hinted at a similar idea that never came out.
